Technical Data
Start of operation: June 2006
Capacity: 625 kW el. two-step plant with a retention time of 140 days (digester and post-digester)
Input: Corn silage, clover silage
Thermal heat utilization: Sold to the "Frankentherme (spa)"
This biogas plant is a joint project of 37 farmers, which make up the Bioenergie Bad Königshofen GmbH &
Co. KG. They supply the plant solely with silage input material. During planning, they intentionally forewent
input materials like slurry or manure, so that these do not need to be transported through the health resort
Bad Königshofen.
This location is predestined for a biogas plant: Thermal heat produced by the CHP is used
year-round, up to 80%, by the close-by Frankentherme. Currently they are working on further optimisation
of this rate. The thermal heat produced by the biogas plant already covers 50-60% of the heat demand of
the spa. It is used to heat Germany’s first spa water lake as well as the adjacent spa pool. This exemplary
use of energy has already been recognized multiple times.
This plant was recognized by winning the
“Best Practice Plant” Award at the Eurotier 2006, the largest German agricultural trade fair. Furthermore
it was awarded the energy prize “Rhönschaf”, endowed at € 10,000. Moreover, Bioenergie Bad Königshofen
was awarded a Bavarian-wide specialty award of the Bavarian farmers’ union for best cooperation.
