Technical Data
Start up date: June 2007
Production Capacity: 499 kW electricity
Input: Corn silage and liquid manure
Thermal heat utilization: Heating of residential units
The Lichtenberg Agrar GmbH & Co. KG provides a home for a large quantity of cattle, which is characteristic
for East German dairy operations: 900 dairy cows and 300 calves are located at this operation. Of course,
this creates a large quantity of liquid manure each day, which, in this case, is used very wisely. Every day
approximately 80 m3 of liquid manure is fed to the biogas plant; this in combination with approximately
17 tons of corn silage is sufficient to produce enough biogas to run a 499 kW combined heat and power unit
(CHP-unit). The thermal heat produced by the CHP is then used to heat the dairy facilities and to generate
hot water for the dairy facilities including social buildings.
Furthermore 48 housing units in Lichtenberg can be supplied year-round with heat.
By this exemplary concept, not only methane emissions from liquid manure are omitted, but the need for
fossil-based energy is also reduced. Furthermore, there is another positive aspect: liquid manure treated
in a biogas plant is almost odourless. An all-round concept..
